Canadians rethinking travel plans as Trump tariffs loom
PRINCE GEORGE – Even though U.S. President Donald Trump’s tariff threats have been postponed to March 4, Canadians have certainly taken note and the numbers show it could hurt the U.S.’s tourism income. The United States Travel association predicts a 10% drop in Canadian tourism, which could result in billions of dollars lost.
“Even 10% is significant because the Canadian tourism market to America last year alone was 20.4 million people, and 20.5 billion Canadian dollars from tourists to the American tourism market. So even 10% seems quite significant and particularly for the popular destinations for Canadians in America like California, Texas, Arizona, they’re going to be impacted for sure,” said College of New Caledonia Tourism Instructor Dr. Dooseon Jung.
