TWolves swept by Spartans in final road weekend games of Canada West season

LANGLEY B.C. — The UNBC Timberwolves wrapped up their final road games of the season with defeat in Langley Saturday (Feb. 8) night.

The UNBC women were led by a 35 point effort from Viktoriia Filatova (18) and Sarah Kuklisin (17), though they fell 65-53 to the Trinity Western Spartans.

Sveta Boykova (9) and Brynn Dergousoff (7) also combined for 16 rebounds for the Timberwolves, who dropped to 4-14 on the season, with two games left to play.

The UNBC men also wrapped up their weekend with a 93-63 defeat to the Spartans at the Langley Events Centre. The Spartans were led by senior Josh Belvin, who set a new single-game scoring record with 43 points.

Evgeny Baukin led the way with 13 points for UNBC while first-year forward Wesley Ainu’u added eight points, five rebounds and a game-high four blocks.

Next up for the TWolves is their final homestand of the season on Friday and Saturday against the UBC Thunderbirds.

Friday’s women’s game is also Shoot For the Cure Night and the TWolves will be wearing pink cancer-themed jerseys.
