PRINCE GEORGE— The UNBC Timberwolves basketball teams are approaching their final games of the 2024-25 regular season this weekend.

On Friday (Feb. 14), the women’s basketball team kicks off their doubleheader against the UBC Thunderbirds, with their Shoot for the Cure Game.

Shoot for the Cure is a national initiative that has raised over two million dollars for the Canadian Cancer Society since it’s inception in 2007.

“(It’s for) People that athletes have known, people who work with athletics. These people have made a big impact in all of our lives and we’re not just playing for ourselves, we’re playing for them,” said third year Timberwolves forward, Amrit Manak.

To help the cause, you can donate online at the UNBC Timberwolves Shoot for a Cure Canadian Cancer Society page or go to the game on Friday, with the ticket proceeds being donated as well.

“There’s going to be a really special presentation on Friday night before the game. It’s going to be a special moment where the 56 names (on the jersey) will be read off and we will have some special guests doing a ceremonial jump ball,” said UNBC’s Director of Athletics, Loralyn Murdoch.

Wrapping up the season on Saturday, they will be recognizing their five senior players (Sarah Kuklisin, Sveta Boykova, Bella Mesquita, Adaiah Tupas-Singh, Josh Gillespie) on Seniors Night.

“When that last buzzer goes off, who knows if I’ll cry, but I’m just thankful for the time I have here. I wouldn’t want it any other way with my family, girlfriend and her family coming. It’s kind of a last hurrah for me, so it’ll be amazing,” said senior forward, Josh Gillespie, ahead of his final game in the green and gold.
