PRINCE GEORGE — Landon DiPont had a goal to lead the Everett Silvertips to a 3-1 win over the Prince George Cougars at CN Centre Friday (Feb. 14) night.

DuPont, the second player ever to be granted exceptional status in the Western Hockey League, opened the scored for the league-leading Silvertips. He struck on the power play at 8:28 of the first period for his 13th goal – and 51st point – of his rookie season.

Matteo Danis made it a 1-1 game when he scored the Cougars’ lone goal of the night, at 16:33 of the opening period. It was Danis’ fourth goal in five games this month, and tenth of the season.

That jubilation was short-lived as Tyler MacKenzie at 19:24 of the first and Eric Jamieson, into an empty net in the third period, helped the Silvertips improve their record to 38-9-4-3. They’re still the only team to have clinched a playoff spot in the WHL.

Cougars goaltender Joshua Ravensbergen turned aside 25 of 27 shots in a losing effort, although he was named third star on the night. In the other crease, Raiden LeGall was named the first star as he made 27 saves to pick up the win.

The 30-16-4-2 Cougars are now six points behind the Victoria Royals for first place in the B.C. Division, as the Royals were 5-2 winners over the Vancouver Giants. The Cougars currently have 66 points from 52 games to the Royals 72 points from 54 games.

The Cougars will rematch against the Silvertips at CN Centre at 6:00 p.m. Saturday night.
