PRINCE GEORGE — The Chilliwack Chiefs completed the weekend double over the Prince George Spruce Kings with a 3-1 win at Kopar Memorial Arena Saturday (Feb. 22) night.

The Kings struck first in Saturday’s game as Carter Hesselgrave scored shorthanded just 2:24 after the opening faceoff. It was all they managed as the Coastal Conference leading-Chiefs had goals in all three periods to come away with the win.

Mateo Mrsic tied things up in the first, Lucas Sorace scored the game winner in the second, and Olivier Beaulieu added an insurance marker for the Chiefs in the third period.

The Chiefs also took Friday’s game at Kopar by a score of 6-4. They led 4-1 midway through the game, but the Kings were able to tie things up at 4-4 in the third. They weren’t able to capitalize as the Chiefs struck twice in the final frame and picked up the win.

The Spruce Kings remain four points behind the Langley Rivermen for the final playoff spot in the BCHL’s Coastal Conference. They have 38 points from 43 games to the Rivermen’s 42 from 44.

Next up for the Kings is a weekend road trip to the Lower Mainland, where they’ll face Coquitlam on Thursday, Feb. 28 and Surrey on Friday, Feb. 29. They’ll also play the Silverbacks in Salmon Arm on Sunday, March 2.
