KAMLOOPS — The Prince George Cougars scored four unanswered goals en route to a 4-2 win over the Kamloops Blazers Saturday (March 1) at Sandman Centre.

The Cougars extended their win streak to four games after they completed the weekend sweep over their BC Division Rivals, following Friday’s win in Prince George by a 4-2 margin as well.

Conner Radke scored the only goal of the first period period before Beau Courtney doubled the Blazers’ lead with a one-timer inside two minutes of the second period.

The Cougars fought back and tied the game at 2-2 after two periods, as Terik Parascak and newly-signed Toronto Maple Leafs prospect Borya Valis beat Dylan Ernst in the Blazers’ net. Ernst finished with 26 saves on 29 shots, while Cougars goaltender Cooper Michaluk, finished with 31 saves on 33 shots.

Third period goals from Koehn Ziemmer – on the power play – and Riley Heidt – into an empty net – allowed Prince George to keep up pace with the Victoria Royals for the BC Division lead. The Royals have 81 points to the Cougars’ 76 as both teams have nine games left to play.

Victoria and Prince George will meet at the CN Centre on the final weekend of the WHL regular season, March 21 and 22.

Next up for the Cougars is a pair of road games in Wenatchee against the Wild on Wednesday and Friday, March 5 and 7.
