WENATCHEE, Wash. — Make it six wins in a row for the Prince George Cougars, who got a little bit of help in their quest to catch the Victoria Royals for the BC Division lead.

The Cougars held off a late comeback by the Wenatchee as they picked up a 4-3 win over the Wild Friday (March 7), while Victoria were blown out 9-2 by Spokane. It was PG’s second consecutive 4-3 win after Wednesday’s comeback win at the Town Toyota Center.

Terik Parascak opened the scoring for the Cougars at 3:41 of the first period, it was all even at the buzzer as Lukas McCloskey scored at 9:21.

The Cougars appeared to be cruising to victory after goals from Aiden Foster at 10:48 and Viliam Kmec at 18:05 in the second and Borya Valis into the empty net at 18:03 of the third period, have them up 4-1 with less than two minutes to play.

But the Wild made things interesting with two power play goals in the final minute after both Ben Riche and Parascak were assessed minor penalties. Both Shaun Rios and McCloskey beat Joshua Ravensbergen with the man-advantage, the latter goal coming with six seconds left on the clock.

The Cougars though were able to hold on and pick up a vital two points, to give them 80 points from 62 games. The Royals meanwhile have 81 points from 61 games.

Ravensbergen was named first star as he finished with 26 saves on 29 shots. Wenatchee’s Brendan Gee allowed three goals on 31 shots in a losing effort, as the Wild fell behind in their quest to close the gap on Seattle for the final playoff spot in the Western Conference.

The Cougars will continue on in the U.S. as they head to Everett to play the league leading Silvertips on Saturday, followed by a Sunday game in Langley against the Vancouver Giants.
