EVERETT, Wash. — The Prince George Cougars have won their seventh straight game as they beat the league-leading Everett Silvertips 4-3 Saturday (March 8) night.

It’s the Cougars’ third 4-3 win on the trot and their first in Everett since Dec. 2019 – as they moved into the B.C. Division lead, following Victoria’s 2-1 setback to Spokane in a shootout. While the teams have 82 points each, the Cougars have got 38 wins to the Royal’s 36. Victoria though has a game in hand.

The Cats struck first at the Angel of the Winds Arena Saturday night, as Viliam Kmec and Ben Riche had them up 2-0 by the midway point of the second period.

While Tarin Smith pulled one back on the power play at 13:16, Borya Valis restored the Cougars’ two-goal lead just 23 seconds later. The Toronto Maple Leafs prospect stripped the puck from a Silvertip and made a slick move to the backhand and into the net.

Everett though had the last laugh in the period, as they Tyler MacKenzie capitalized in the dying seconds after the Cougars ran into penalty trouble.

Riche and Smith then traded goals early in the third period but the Cougars came away with the win. They withheld the pressure from the Silvertips who outshot the Cougars 15-3 in the final frame in search for the tying goal.

Cooper Michaluk made 28 saves on 31 shots to pick up the win for Prince George. Raiden LeGall stopped 22 of 26 in a losing effort.

The Cougars will conclude their four-game road trip in Langley against the Vancouver Giants at 4:00 p.m. Sunday. It’s their final road game of the 2024-25 WHL season, as the Cougars will wrap up their season at CN Centre with a four-game homestand.

They’ll also have to wait for an update on Terik Parascak, who was forced to leave the game just over two minutes into the second period after a scary collision.
