PRINCE GEORGE – The Prince George Track and Field Club (PGTF) dominated the Van Ryswyk JD / BC U16 to Masters Indoor Championships in Kamloops over the weekend. The 19 athletes that attended brought home a combined 34 medals, with 20 golds, 10 silvers, and 4 bronzes.

“It was just it was a phenomenal weekend. There was a great energy from our crew, we’ve had a phenomenal indoor season, great turnout of athletes. Our athletes have been working so hard and to see them be so successful in Kamloops, it was awesome,” said the PGTF’s Indoor and Multi-Event Coach Victoria Schinkel.

The team had a wide variety of athletes, going from children participating in the U12 events all the way up to an 80 year old who won four gold medals.

“It’s so cool to see how in track and field, everyone can be involved. It doesn’t matter if you are six years old or eighty years old. There’s a program for you, we have our Rascals program, our JD program, our senior and master’s program, there’s a space for everyone,” Schinkel said.

Schinkel added many athletes also set personal bests on top of winning medals, and she’s proud of all the work the athletes put in to be able to have such a strong showing at a provincial competition.

“As a coach, to see all their hard work pay off, and you see all the work that they put in all the time, the effort, it was just phenomenal,” she said.
