VICTORIA — The B.C. Coroners Service says the province recorded a total of 152 drug-toxicity deaths in January.
It says that number amounts to 4.9 deaths per day. Five of those deaths were in Prince George, and eight in the Northern Health region.
The service says the townships experiencing the highest number of drug deaths so far this year are Vancouver, Surrey and Greater Victoria.
It says 57 per cent of those who died smoked the drugs, and 46 per cent of deaths occurred in a private residence.
