Spruce Kings welcome Crusaders after crucial weekend

PRINCE GEORGE— The Prince George Spruce Kings currently sit two points back of the Coastal Conference’s final playoff spot, thanks to grabbing three of four points against the Langley Rivermen last weekend.

“Those are big points. Our goal is to to get closer and closer to that last playoff spot and we did that. It’s something that these guys should take a lot of pride in and just keep moving forward,” said Kings Associate Coach, Taylor Harnett.

A big part of their success on the weekend was thanks to Brock Cummings, who broke an eight-game goalless drought, scoring two goals including a late game tying goal to clinch a point in Saturday’s game.

“It’s been a while. I haven’t been keeping track of how many games, but I know it’s been a while, so to finally find the back of the net, that felt great,” said Cummings.

This weekend, they welcome the Crusaders to town for their only meeting of the season. Sherwood Park come in as the highest scoring team in the BCHL, led by the leagues top two scorers in Jeremy Loranger (91 points) and Kale Dach (77 points).

“We’re a team that takes a lot of pride in defense and we work really hard at that…They’re very offensive and very skilled, so we’re going to have to come together, be accountable on defense and just work our tails off in our own end,” said Kings Alternate Captain, Trent Ballentyne.

Puck drop is at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Mar. 16.
