Cariboo Cougars ready to host BCEHL Final

PRINCE GEORGE— The U18 AAA Cariboo Cougars are preparing to host the British Columbia Elite Hockey League (BCEHL) Final this weekend. They will be facing the Okanagan Rockets, after a winning a tough three game series against the Vancouver North West Hawks.

“Gotta come out quick and ready to go. We like the matchup but at this point of the year you can throw matchups out the window… We feel like our group is healthy, they feel good about themselves and are confident going into the weekend, but we need to show up when the puck drops,” said Cariboo Cougars Head Coach, Tyler Brough.

The Cariboo Cougars have gone 3-1-1 against the Rockets this season, but Okanagan are the only undefeated team this postseason, finishing both their series in two-game sweeps.

Luckily for the Cariboo, they’ll have the crowd on their side, that played a big part in last weekend’s series as they staggered start times with the Prince George Cougars.

“I’ve heard from a lot of people that weren’t coming to our game, they were going to the Cougars game and they just poked in and watched. Maybe they were a little bit unaware of how exciting and good the U18 hockey is, and a lot of them are planning on coming this weekend,” said Brough.

They’ll hope to pack the barn again this weekend, in their battle for the programs first BCEHL Title since 2019. Puck drop for game 1 of the final is at 7:45 p.m., Friday (Mar. 21) at Kin Centre 1.
