Multiple candidates vying for office in two Prince George ridings

PRINCE GEORGE — Federal party leaders hit the road for the first full day of the election campaign Monday with the leaders fanning out across the country. Here in Prince George, we’re starting to get a clearer picture of who’s going to be on the ballot in the two Prince George ridings.

Starting in Cariboo-Prince George, where Conservative Party candidate Todd Doherty will be looking to win his fourth term in office. First elected in 2015, Doherty won the riding handily in the last election three-and-a-half years ago, picking up 51 per cent of the vote.

The NDP have nominated Angie Bonazzo, whose worked for Northern Health for two decades. She currently works as as mental health support worker at the Adult Withdrawal Management unit in Prince George.

Jodi Capling will carry the Green Party banner into the election. Capling has a Masters Degree in Resource Management and worked in energy efficiency in the private sector for five years. She left that field to help raise a family in the Cariboo.

The People’s Party of Canada is running Rudy Sans of Prince George. Rudy serves as a B.C. public servant in the judicial branch.

In Prince George-Peace River-Northern Rockies, Conservative incumbent Bob Zimmer is seeking his fifth term in office. First elected in 2011, Zimmer is based in Fort St. John. He picked up close to 61 per cent of the vote in 2021.

Mary Forbes from Williams Lake is running for the Green Party while David Watson, a postmaster for Canada post in Bear lake, is running for the People’s Party of Canada.

The Liberals haven’t announced who their candidates are in either riding yet. The Conservatives have never lost in Cariboo-Prince George while the Conservatives have held the Prince George-Peace River-Northern Rockies riding since 1972.

Election day is April 28.
