Cougars look for revenge against Winterhawks to open playoffs

Mar 26, 2025 | 4:31 PM

PRINCE GEORGE— For the second year running, the Prince George Cougars and Portland Winterhawks will face off in the WHL Playoffs. Last season, the Winterhawks defeated the Cougars in a thrilling six game series to advance to the finals. This year, the Cats are looking for their revenge as they meet in the first round.

“I’ll be upfront and blank with it. We don’t like the team on the other side. We hate Portland. I hate Portland. This is going to be one of the most exciting playoff series in the whole Western League,” said Cougars forward, Matteo Danis.

Along with the rivalry being re-ignited, it’s the return of the whiteout to the CN Centre.

“I remember last year’s first round… You get a little tear in your eye and it gets emotional. Fans get into it. The guys get into it. It’s a whole other breed for people that haven’t been around here for playoffs to understand that they’re 6000 strong. A northern crowd that’s faithful and strong on our side,” said Cougars Assistant Coach, Carter Rigby.

Games one and two of round one will be this Friday (Mar. 28) and Saturday (Mar. 29) at the CN Centre.
