PRINCE GEORGE — Public safety will be in the spotlight in Prince George Thursday afternoon (March 27).

Minister of State for Community Safety and Integrated Services Terry Yung will be here to engage with police, business associations, downtown resident associations, public safety advocates, and other interested groups on initiatives to strengthen safety in the downtown area.

The Ministry of Public Safety and Solicitor General says “the goal and outcome of the visit will be to gather information to ensure services offered by the province are consistent with those needed by police when engaging with people in crisis, especially those struggling with mental health, addiction, and brain injury who are contributing to public concerns about safety in the downtown area.”

The issue of crime in Prince George is a top issue. Just last week a Public Safety Committee meeting discussed the possibility of providing private security to help protect downtown businesses.
