PRINCE GEORGE— The 2025 Special Olympics B.C. Summer (SOBC) Games are coming to Prince George in 100 days. The occasion was celebrated at the Kin Centre Atrium, with speeches from the events organizing committee, 2025 SOBC Games Athlete Ambassadors and even some skill demonstration from a few athletes as well.

“Our community is going to welcome more than 1200 athletes with intellectual disabilities from all across the province to compete with pride in the 2025 Special Olympics B.C. Summer Games,” said Co-Chair of the 2025 SOBC Games, Renee McCloskey.

The games will need plenty of support from community members all across Prince George, to put on this monumental event for athletes with intellectual disabilities.

“Getting involved with the 2025 Special Olympic B.C. Summer Games, helps offer an empowering experience in our community for athletes and volunteers from across the province,” said Co-Chair of the 2025 SOBC Games, Lyn Hall.

For the athletes, the opportunity to compete and be apart of Special Olympics, means so much more than just the sports that they play.

“I am proud to be an athlete in Special Olympics because I am a part of a team. I am a role model and help people. It makes me happy to be helpful,” said Marinka Van Hage, an Athlete Ambassador for the 2025 SOBC Games.

“To me, Special Olympics means inclusion, equal opportunity and celebration of abilities for the differently abled. It’s a platform for us to shine and showcase our talents, and it’s a reminder that everyone deserves the opportunity to participate in sports and compete on equal footing,” said Chase Caron, an Athlete Ambassador for the 2025 SOBC Games.

To make the 2025 Special Olympics B.C. Summer Games possible, the organizing committee is looking for 1000 volunteers to help out from July 10 to 12.
