Spruce Kings relishing opportunity as playoff underdogs

PRINCE GEORGE— Against the odds, the Spruce Kings clinched the eighth and final playoff spot in the Coastal Conference on the final day of the regular season and are prepared for a dog fight against the top seeded Chilliwack Chiefs.

To get in they won six of their final eight games of the season to catch and surpass the fading Langley Rivermen, who lost 11 of their final 14 games.

“We’ve been battling for a playoff spot basically for two months. They’ve showed up to work every day and I think for the first time in a little bit, they feel rewarded for it.,” said Spruce Kings Head Coach, Brad Tesink.

Despite the uncanny amount of roster turnover throughout the year, dressing over 40 players over the course of the season, the team has come together for the same goal.

“Everyone’s super tight. Everyone’s ready to make sacrifice and put the teams logo in front of their names,” said Kings goaltender, Charles-Edward Gravel.

As they enter the first round of the playoffs against the top seeded Chilliwack Chiefs, they’re relishing being the underdogs.

“The underdog role is kind of fun to play, so we’ll cherish that and go into the weekend knowing that there’s no pressure on us,” said Kings forward, Owen Goodbrand.

The series begins in Chilliwack, with games one and two this Friday and Saturday at the Chilliwack Coliseum.
