
Trump imposes tariffs on more than 50 countries
PRINCE GEORGE – Short and long-term impacts will arise from the tariffs imposed on more than fifty countries worldwide. by United States President Donald Trump on Wednesday.
Some of the “reciprocal tariffs” recipients are India (26%), the United Kingdom(10%), Australia (10%), Thailand (36%), Vietnam (46%), New Zealand (10%) and the European Union (20%). US President Donald Trump says that Canada and Mexico are exempt from the new reciprocal tariffs.
A White House document says goods imported under the existing Canada-US-Mexico Trade agreement will not face tariffs, while others will see a 10 per cent tariff. However, the president says he plans to proceed with a 25 per cent tariff on all foreign-made automobiles.
Meanwhile, local political analyst Dr. Gary Wilson says the repercussions will be both short and long-term.
