Man injured, dog killed in moose confrontation in College Heights
PRINCE GEORGE — A man was injured by a moose while walking his dogs Tuesday night in Prince George, prompting the Conservation Officer Service (COS) to remind the public to take precautions when enjoying the outdoors.
According to the Ministry of Environment, the incident took place at around 7:45 p.m. along Varsity Trail in College Heights. The Ministry says the victim and his wife were walking their two dogs when they saw a moose nearby.
“The dogs began barking and the moose charged. The man attempted to pick up his dog and was injured by the moose. He received medical attention for non-life threatening injuries. One of the dogs, a Chihuahua, was killed in the incident.”
The Ministry says conservation officers investigated the scene Thursday morning (April 3) and note that moose and other ungulates may perceive dogs as threats and can become aggressive towards people and pets.
