CHILLIWACK — The Prince George Spruce Kings tied the score twice but weren’t able to find a lead, as they fell 4-2 to the Chilliwack Chiefs in game two of their BCHL playoff series Saturday (April 5) night.

The Chiefs, the top-seeded Coastal Conference team, scored twice just 47 seconds apart in the second period and then held on in the third period to take a 2-0 series lead.

The Chiefs got goals from Dustin Renas and Jayden Veney in the first period to lead 1-0 and 2-1 Saturday night. Nicolas Papineau struck for the Spruce Kings in the opening period with his first of the playoffs.

Brock Cummings made it a 2-2 game a little over four minutes into the second period, before the Chiefs struck on the power play three minutes later at 7:14 thorough Brady Milburn.

Carter Anderson then doubled the lead at 8:01 of the second to put the Chiefs up 4-2.

Friday night in Chilliwack, the Chiefs were led by a pair of power play goals from Milburn, as they took game one of the series by a score of 3-2.

Cummings opened the scoring for the Spruce Kings just past the three minute mark, though Milburn’s pair meant the Chiefs led 2-1 after one period. Connor Arseneault then made it 3-1 with the only goal of the second period.

Trent LeDrew pulled Prince George back to within one with a goal at 17:42 of the third period, but the Chiefs were able to hold on for the one goal win.

Spruce Kings goaltender Charles-Edward Gravel stopped 60 of 67 shots across the two games. He also turned aside a penalty shot attempt by Caleb Elfering in the third period of game two.

In the other net, Quentin Miller turned aside 65 of 69 shots to pick up both wins for the Chiefs.

The series shifts to Prince George for games three and four at Kopar Memorial Arena on Tuesday and Wednesday (April 8 and 9). The Kings will need to win at least one of those games if they are to send the series back to the Lower Mainland.

Puck drop for both games three and four is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
