Riley Heidt’s incredible legacy in Prince George

PRINCE GEORGE— With the Cougars season coming to an end earlier this week, it’s also likely the end of Riley Heidt’s illustrious junior hockey career in Prince George. The Cougars Captain played over 300 games for Prince George between the regular season and playoffs, and is the franchise’s all-time assist leader.

“Leaving my family at such a young age, I came to this organization. I just can’t believe how well I fit in here and how fast the time went by it. It’s a true first class organization and I thank every person. The coaching staff, my teammates that I’ve had over the years, trainers, my billets, everything. It’s been exceptional and I just can’t believe it’s over,” said Heidt.

After joining the team in 2020 as a 15-year-old, Heidt played a major role in transforming the organization into what it is now, after some tough years for the Cougars franchise. Just like the City won’t soon forget what he did for the community on and off the ice, Heidt will forever have a special place in his heart for Prince George.

“I truly love this place so much. It’s been a second home for me for the last five years… How much of a family it is around here, the teammates that I’ve been through over the years, there’s so many good people and so many learning experiences,” Heidt said.

The Saskatoon native has now taken the leap to the American Hockey League as he’s joined the Minnesota Wild’s farm team, the Iowa Wild for the remainder of the 2024-25 season.
