CHILLIWACK — The Prince George Spruce Kings will be playing for their playoff lives in game six of their BCHL first-round playoff series Sunday (April 13) night, after they were beaten 2-1 by the Chilliwack Chiefs in Game 5 Friday night.

Following a scoreless opening period at the Chilliwack Coliseum, the Coastal Conference-leading Chiefs led 2-0 after 40 minutes, courtesy goals from Dwayne Jean Jr. and Carter Anderson.

Trent LeDrew then pulled the Spruce Kings back to within one when he struck about four minutes into the third period. That was all the offence the visitors were able to muster, as the Chiefs held on for the win, and the 3-2 series lead.

Spruce Kings goaltender Charles-Edward Gravel made 42 saves on 44 shots to keep his team in contention throughout the night. Among his many saves was a diving stop on the Spruce Kings lone penalty kill of the third period to keep it a one-goal game.

Quentin Miller picked up the win for the Chiefs, having made 15 saves on just 16 shots. The Spruce Kings only managed six shots across the opening two periods Friday.

The home team has won all five games of this series so far, and the Spruce Kings will look to keep that going in a must-win game six, set for 6:00 p.m. Sunday at Kopar Memorial Arena.

The team says over 1,000 tickets have already been sold for that game, with tickets available either online or at the Spruce Kings office between 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. Saturday.

If the Spruce Kings win Sunday night, game seven will be played in Chilliwack on Tuesday (April 15).
