Candidate Questions: Angie Bonazzo
1. Why are you running for office?
I am running to have a New Democrat voice in Parliament to preserve what we most value as a society: looking after each other with are robust social policies we currently enjoy as Canadians.
2. How does your party plan to address the issue of U.S. tariffs?
The New Democrats have laid out a plan for dollar-for-dollar tariffs, cutting off the supply of critical minerals the the US relies on; this includes critical minerals for Tesla batteries. A build Canadian by Canadian strategy to build more of what we need here in Canada and prioritize made by Canadian workers are some of the examples the NDP have to address the issue of US tariffs.
3. How would you address the challenges facing some Aboriginal communities across our region?
By proactively working with First Nations leadership to develop plans to address the issues unique to the different communities in this region.
4. What’s your stance on the development of pipelines?
Build, build, build the pipelines to get our oil and gas products to markets. I stand for building of course with respect to First Nations and environmental protections in place.
5. How high a priority is affordable childcare for your party? What’s your party’s pitch?
The NDP are 100% committed to continuing the delivery the NDP brought to Canada with childcare. It is a top priority.
6. In light of Canada/USA relations, does Canada need to diversify its economy? If yes, in what way?
As a nation we need to eliminate the interprovincial trade barriers that currently exist, while searching globally for sensible and stable global economies to do business with.
7. What would you do to help seniors?
A further cost of living increase to the CPP and Old Age Security pensions.
8. How would address the opioid crisis?
Pressure the BC government to stop the safe supply program and create a system where individuals go from a detox centre to a treatment bed.
9. Where in the riding do you live? Why? What are your favourite places to spend time in?
When I started this I lived in the riding, but Elections Canada changed the riding border: I live on Pearson Avenue, very close to the riding!
