Spruce Kings eliminated from BCHL playoffs

The Prince George Spruce Kings where unable to complete an upset in game seven against the Chilliwack Chiefs on Tuesday night.

Chiefs goaltender Quintin Miller stopped all 33 shots the Spruce Kings fired at him to earn his first BCHL playoff shutout in a 4-0 win for the Chiefs.

The first goal of the game didn’t come until a minute and 45 seconds into the second period, when Chiefs forward Caleb Elfering put his first of two passed Spruce Kings goalie Charles-Edward Gravel.

The Spruce Kings had the lone power play in the game halfway through the second, unable to score.

The Chiefs struck with their second goal at the 15:59 mark, when Adam Boatter tucked one in at the side of the goal.

Elfering got his second of the night at the 1:59 mark of the third period to make it 3-0 Chiefs, with Gravel on his back after a scramble at the side of the net.

The Spruce Kings pulled their goaltender Gravel with 4:04 remaining in the third, but just under a minute later the Chiefs Nathan Morin scored the empty netter to make it 4-0 Chiefs.

Spruce Kings goalie Charles-Edward Gravel made 39 saves on 42 shots in the loss.

The game marked the final junior hockey games for the Spruce Kings Gravel, Linden Makow, Owen Goodbrand, Maks Perčič, Trent Ballentyne, Will Moore, and Nicolas Papineau.

The Spruce Kings made the playoffs on the last day of the regular season, after being down eight points in the standings on Feb. 1.

The Chiefs finished 27 points higher in the standings, and the home team won all seven games of the series.
