PRINCE GEORGE — The Prince George Community Foundation says applications are now open for the Chad Staley Memorial Development Fund, named after a former captain of the Prince George Spruce Kings.

The fund, which is open to both athletes and local sport organizations, was established by the Chad Staley Memorial Foundation to mark the fifth anniversary of Chad’s passing in 2020.

“This Fund was established to honor the legacy of Chad Staley by guiding and supporting athletes in overcoming challenges, achieving goals, and growing into well-rounded individuals,” a statement from the Prince George Community Foundation said.

“The fund focuses on Athletics, Academics, Health, and Well-being, helping to build a community where every athlete has the resources to reach their full potential.”

Athletes under the age of 24 in any sport and at any level of development are eligible to apply for money for things like coaching, equipment, travel to competitions, mental health support, and tutoring. Individual athletes can apply for between $250 and $2,000 in funding while local sport organizations can apply for up to $5,000.

All applications are due by May 15 and the applicants will be notified of results by the end of June at the latest.
