Giscome Elementary School to close at end of school year

PRINCE GEORGE — The Prince George School District’s Board of Education has made the decision to close Giscome Elementary School effective June 30, 2025.

“School closure decisions are one of the most difficult decisions a Board of Education makes. The Board thanks the Giscome school community for their patience and input during this process,” says Board Chair Craig Brennan.

“Our focus now turns to supporting the school community over the next few months as they prepare for the school closure and transition for the fall of 2025.”

Effective for the 2025-26 school year the Giscome Elementary catchment area will be included in the Blackburn Elementary School catchment.

Low enrollment was a key consideration in the closure of the school. This year there are just 10 students at the school and four to seven were projected for the 2025-26 school year.

According to Board of Education documents, there were almost 60 kids at the school in 1998 and in prior years upwards of 200 kinds with two portables on site.
