PG triathlete bound for Europe

PRINCE GEORGE — Josiah Wilkinson, a local Prince George triathlete, is officially heading off to Europe with Team BC to race in three triathlons this upcoming summer.

That’s all thanks to a recent fundraiser that hit its goal, helping Josiah cover the $3,500 needed for travel, accommodations, and coaching expenses.

Josiah, aged 18, leaves June 9 and will compete in Austria, the Netherlands, and Hungary.

He’s been racing since he was two-years old and gained more interest in triathlon at the BC Summer Games.

He now trains full-time while juggling two part-time jobs and says “it feels incredible” to have this opportunity to be able to race on the other side of the world.

He ranks 75th in all of Canada and at the 2024 CAN Sprint Triathlon National Championships in Montreal, he placed 21st with a time of 00:53:45.

He also came in 32nd place at the 2024 Americas Triathlon Cup in Edmonton with a time of 00:58:49.

Josiah sees himself representing Canada on an international stage, maybe even at the Olympics, in the next few years and heading over to Europe to race is a big step in that direction.
