PRINCE GEORGE — A motion is coming to City Council at Monday’s (May 26) council meeting regarding the 30th anniversary of the CN Centre.

Councillors Kyle Sampson and Brian Skakun presented a motion that aims to direct staff to begin working on a plan to celebrate 30 years of the CN Centre with a “fun, financially accessible, safe, and community-oriented” event.

“We know staff are already well underway planning a series of events to mark the anniversary, from key concerts to Cougars-focused activations, to other venue celebrations throughout September,” the notice of motion from Councillors Kyle Sampson and Brian Skakun said.

“What we’re doing with this motion is adding direction and support from Council to ensure that there is also a public-facing, community celebration that’s fun, inclusive, accessible, and affordable… something the public can take part in and enjoy, and likely modest in cost.”

If the motion is passed, city administration will come back to council with a report by June 23 “that outlines a plan to deliver a fun, financially accessible, safe, and community-oriented public event as part of the CN Centre’s 30th Anniversary celebration, to be hosted around September 30th, 2025.”

The motion also “recommends that staff explore potential partnership and funding opportunities to help support the celebration, potentially including, but not limited to our longtime partners at CN Rail.”
