PRINCE GEORGE — The Prince George Spruce Kings have hired a new associate coach and a new athletic therapist.

In a statement, the Spruce Kings say Delta native Brad Tobin will join the coaching staff, having served as head coach of the Olds Grizzlys in the Alberta Junior Hockey League (AJHL).

The 36-year-old Tobin is no stranger to the British Columbia Hockey League (BCHL), as he spent 10 seasons with the Surrey Eagles over two stints from 2010 to 2016 and 2018 to 2022. He was part of the Eagles team that won the Fred Page and Western Canada Cup in 2013.

“Despite still being a fairly young guy, Brad is an experienced coach with a lot of years spent in the BCHL,” Spruce Kings General Manager Mike Hawes said. “His vision and ideas for our program align very well with my own and our other staff members.”

Tobin will join head coach Brad Tesink, assistant coach Brandon Manning, goalie consultant Kris Joyce, strength and conditioning coach Chase Astorino and mental performance consultant Kolin Kriitmaa for the coming season.

“I’m excited to be part of a program with a strong foundation and commitment to excellence,” Tobin said. “My goal is to support our players in their development, bring enthusiasm to the rink every day and help build a culture rooted in accountability and hard work.”

“I’m grateful for the opportunity and can’t wait to get started.”

The team also announced the hiring of Athletic Therapist Ryan Wolfe, a graduate of the University of Manitoba’s Athletic Therapy program. Wolfe has worked with the Winnipeg Jets, the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, Valour FC, and the University of Manitoba Football team.

“Ryan is an impressive young man who we are thrilled to have joining or organization,” Hawes said. “Through the interview process he checked all the boxes that we were looking for in an athletic therapist. He will be a great addition and will do a great job in prioritizing our athlete’s health and putting them in the best position to be successful.”

Added Wolfe, “I’m excited to be working with such a great organization like the Spruce Kings. I look forward to working closely with the players and staff to help keep the team healthy, strong, and ready to perform at their best!”

Wolfe takes over from Michael Miller who took a new role with the BC Lions.
