Third degree black belt, world-travelled fighter, now coaching in Prince George
PRINCE GEORGE – Kaiten MMA welcomed a new coach, as Chad Bellwood has joined the gym to bring his wealth of knowledge and experience to fighters in Prince George. Bellwood brings an impressive resume, as he is a professor of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu — a title only bestowed when you receive your third degree black belt — and has spent thirty years travelling the world both honing his craft and growing the sport.
On top of that, he is also a member of the Carlson Gracie Family. The Gracie family is one of the most prestigious sporting families in all of MMA. Beyond winning countless tournaments, the family also cofounded the Ultimate Fighting Champion (UFC), which is now the biggest MMA organization in the world.
“It’s a dream come true because when I was really young doing the martial arts, they had the black belt magazines and all these great martial art magazines, and I would read and see these legends, and Carlson Gracie Junior was one of them in the magazine. So I would always think ‘wow, it’d be so interesting to meet those guys or to train with them, to be around them at any time.’ It just so happened in life that I was able to do that and be a part of their team and be a part of their life, and now I am a professor, jiu jitsu black belt,” Bellwood said.
