Special Olympics needs volunteers for upcoming provincial games
PRINCE GEORGE – The 2025 Special Olympics BC Summer Games is coming up, and it will be hosted from July 10-12 in Prince George. It will bring more than 1200 athletes from across the province to compete in ten different sports, but in order to support such a large event the organization says it is in need of volunteers. Special Olympics says it will need around 1000 volunteers, and the earlier you sign up the smoother the event will be able to run.
“There will be many rewarding volunteer roles to make the Special Olympics BC Games possible from July 10 to 12, 2025. No matter your skills and background, we have a role where you will make a difference and share the joy!” the Special Olympics BC website reads.
The website details the many roles you could help out in, so you can volunteer in whatever position you would be most comfortable in. The categories are:
- Sport: officials (must be certified) and general sport volunteers (no certification required)
- Accommodations, Security, and Medical: supporting operations at sport venues and team accommodation sites*
- Food Services, Logistics, and Transportation: helping set up venues, serve food, and support operations**
- Ceremonies: helping execute the Opening Ceremony and medal presentations (open to public), as well as the Victory Dance (not public)
- Public Relations: capturing photos, video, and storytelling content from the amazing moments of the Games
- Healthy Athletes Screenings: supporting operations at the Special Olympics Healthy Athletes screenings that will be offered during the SOBC Games
- And General Support: willing to help anywhere!
