PRINCE GEORGE — A huge success.

That’s how the Prince George RCMP describes the inaugural ‘Adventures with First Responders Day’ that took place on May 3.

Police say first responders from Prince George RCMP, Prince George Fire Rescue, and Emergency Health Services joined forces with the Prince George School District to offer a sneak-peak into what it’s like to work as a first responder.

“The aim of this program is to expose students to three of the first responder organizations that operate in Prince George, to show them what the work is like and what options are open to them post-graduation,” says Cpl. Jennifer Cooper, Media Relations Officer with the Prince George RCMP.

Students rotated through three stations throughout the day, learning about some of the more dynamic aspects of first responder careers. Some examples of what the students experienced were: donning fire rescue gear and using high-pressure hoses; learning how to stop a traumatic bleed and administer an airway; and arrest and handcuff procedures.

“We are always looking for ways that we can support our students in making career decisions and exploring options that are outside of the standard curriculum. We look forward to partnering with these organizations to provide this program again in the future,” says Steven Foster, School District 57 Career Program Coordinator.
