PRINCE GEORGE – Prince George Mayor Simon Yu is facing allegations from the Engineers and Geoscientists British Columbia Organization regarding previous engineering work.

“You committed professional misconduct contrary to the PGA (Professional Governance Act) in relation to the professional engineering services you provided in 2021 in support of a building permit application for an addition to an existing cabin (the “Project”) on a property located at *address redacted*, Cluculz Lake, BC.” the citation reads.

These allegations have nothing to do with his current role as Mayor, and is focused specifically on a retaining wall on the property at Cluculz Lake. The citation alleges Yu did not have “sufficient geotechnical engineering expertise” to provide a certification regarding a retaining wall.

“Despite not having sufficient geotechnical engineering expertise to provide such a certification, you wrote and authenticated a letter to the Regional District of Bulkley-Nechako dated November 2, 2021 (the “Slope Stability Letter”), certifying that a slope and a soil retaining wall on the Property were stable and safe for long-term occupancy in the Project at the base of the retaining wall.,” the citation continues.

Because of these allegations, the Engineers and Geoscientists British Columbia Organization is summoning Yu for a hearing for July 18, and August 7-8, 2025.

“In the event you fail to attend or remain in attendance at a discipline hearing under section 75 of the PGA, the Panel of the Discipline Committee may, if satisfied that you have been notified of the hearing, proceed with the hearing in your absence and make any order that the Panel of the Discipline Committee could have made in your presence,” it says.

In July of 2005, Yu was also penalized by this organization for being in breach of the Engineers and Geoscientists Act, where he received an official reprimand and paid a $1,000 fine.

CKPG News reached out to Yu on June 17 and 18, but received no reply.
