PRINCE GEORGE – The Caledonia Nordic Ski Club announced Friday that it will be hosting the Nordiq Canada 2026 Olympic Winter Games Trials! Announced by Beckie Scott, Olympic gold medalist and CEO of Nordiq Canada, the ski club is excited to welcome the country’s best athletes to see who will be representing Canada at the 2026 Winter Olympic Games in Milano-Cortina.

“We have an enormous amount of talent and young athletes in the pipeline and in the programs right now. We have an engaged, inspired community like yourselves, bringing events, and hosting events across the country. And we have so much potential to compete amongst the best in the world and be among the best in the world,” Scott said.

“I applaud you as a community for bringing this event together, for hosting this event, for making this very special and exciting for the young people who will come here and participate and compete to be at the Olympic Games,” Scott continued.

Beckie Scott was excited to announce the Caledonia Nordic Ski Club will host the Nordiq Canada 2026 Olympic Winter Games Trials.

This will take place from December 10-16, 2025, prior to the 2026 Winter Olympic Games, and this event marks another huge milestone for the Caledonia Nordic Ski Club. Known for hosting huge events, such as the 2015 Canada Winter Games and the 2024 Para Biathlon World Championships and World Cup Finals, the Ski Club is ecstatic to continue building on positive momentum and bringing more events to the city.

“These sort of events, the World Championships and now the Olympics, those are really, really special events, the special pieces that are so inspirational to everybody. Us as volunteers, the kids that are growing up as budding athletes, and I have no doubt that some of the kids that will be inspired by these events, these Olympic trials, will be the ones that are going to be at the future Olympic trials, in the future Olympics,” said Kevin Pettersen, the Event Chair of the Nordiq Canada 2026 Winter Games Trials.

Beyond the obvious athletic component to this excitement, events like this create a positive snowball effect for the Ski Club, and thus, the entire city. Hosting events like the Olympic Trials brings money into the city and ski club, allowing both parties to upgrade facilities, and upgraded facilities then facilitate more events, and so on.

“Every time I come here, I cannot help but to feel proud about what they have done in the last few decades, through a membership of volunteers that really just roll up their sleeves and make this facility one of the best in the country,” said Prince George Mayor Simon Yu.

“To be selected, to host the trial here in Prince George … This is the first time, and I’m sure there’ll be many other times because of it, and I cannot wait to see all the young athletes come here and compete for the spot,” Yu continued.

Improving the city’s reputation and bringing more sporting events also brings a huge economic boost to the city, as the hundreds, and potentially thousands, of visitors that come to Prince George are certainly greatly appreciated by the many businesses in our city.

“Hosting national level events like this bring incredible visibility, prestige and, of course, brings a positive economic impact to our community. It puts Prince George on the map and brings athletes, coaches, officials, and fans, where we can show them what makes our community so special,” said Tourism Prince George CEO Colin Carson.

Further details on race schedules, volunteer opportunities, and event plans, will be shared later this summer.
