PRINCE GEORGE — Mounties are seeking the public’s help in identifying the suspect or suspects involved in the knocking over of 21 headstones at the Prince George Municipal Cemetery.

The investigation began Monday morning (June 23) when staff at the cemetery reported the crime to police. Damages are estimated at $20,000-$25,000.

“Unfortunately, there is no surveillance in the cemetery grounds to provide us with insight into who the suspect is or are. Investigators are asking that anyone who has information on who may have caused this damage to please come forward with the details,” states Corporal Jennifer Cooper, Media Relations Officer for the Prince George RCMP.

This investigation is ongoing.

The City says that staff arriving to work “Monday morning found 21 upright grave markers had been knocked over; with four being damaged in the process. The non-damaged ones have been returned to their positions and everything cleaned up. Staff also notified plot owners of the damaged markers.”

“The City is incredibly disappointed by this situation. Vandalism of any kind is terrible, but to target a Cemetery is despicable,” adds a City spokesperson.
