PRINCE GEORGE – Selen Alpay, owner of Canadian Tire Prince George, has been named the honorary general manager of the 2025 Special Olympics BC Summer Games.

“Special Olympics is such a meaningful, memorable, and worthy cause. I am blessed to be associated with Special Olympics and the positive impact it makes on the lives of some pretty incredible human beings,” Alpay said.

Alpay, known for his philanthropic efforts in Prince George, has also been a longtime supporter of Special Olympics. In this year’s provincial games, Canadian Tire is the platinum sponsor, and Alpay will be a part of the opening ceremonies and also handing out medals to the athletes.

“Selen is an exemplary community leader who has truly made a difference for the 2025 Special Olympics BC Summer Games and throughout the Prince George community. Time and again Selen has generously contributed his resources and skills, his caring heart, and his inspiring example to make a difference for so many different meaningful causes. We’re so thrilled and grateful he chose to be part of the 2025 SOBC Games,” Co-Chair of the upcoming games Renee McCloskey said.

Alpay says he’s always been happy to support Special Olympics, as he says he enjoys working with the athletes and being a part of the positive and welcoming community.

“They’re extraordinary human beings who teach us, in a lot of ways, of how to never say never and always persevere and do what you want to do in the best way that you can. That’s what these people are showing us, and I gain a lot of perspective from them. They motivate me in a way I can’t even explain and they’re very, very inspirational. I had the good fortune of going to the World Special Olympics in Abu Dhabi a number of years ago, and that was one of the very best experiences of my entire life, and that’s why I continue to do what I do,” Alpay said.

The 2025 Special Olympics BC Summer Games will begin on July 10 and conclude July 12.
