Cyclist safety concerns

PRINCE GEORGE – A collision involving two training cyclists at North Ospika Boulevard and McRae Avenue around 9 am monday morning has many who regularly use bicycle lanes fearful to return to their usual routines. Tour de North lead trainer Ron Gallo says what’s missing is education, awareness, respect.

“There’s not very many cyclists out on the road right now. They are scared and that’s how it’s affecting cyclists. It’s not just the cyclists, it’s their families. We are hearing from the spouses, the kids and the parents. We don’t want you out on the road doing this stuff and that’s that’s a hard pill to swallow as all of this is this week.” said Gallo

Even though the riders had the latest safety equipment including sensors, lights, helmets and vibrant clothing that alone isn’t enough to prevent situations like this Gallo added

“This is a person on the bike who has a family, and that family expects them to come home. These two cyclists on Monday, we don’t know what will happen and we’re waiting. The families want to know when their rider is coming home.” said Gallo

The RCMP are still investigating the collision and further details are unavailable.
