PRINCE GEORGE —The College of New Caledonia is reporting a security incident at the institution.

In an open letter to the school community, President Cindy Heitman said on March 5, 2025, the school was alerted through its IT security systems that an individual had gained limited unauthorized access to certain areas of its computer network.

Heitman said CNC took immediate steps to contain the situation and launched an investigation.

She said the investigation revealed that there was limited unauthorized access to personal information, on or before October 31, 2024.

“While we have no evidence that any of the personal information was used for any malicious or improper purposes, we are notifying all impacted individuals out of an abundance of caution to provide them information, support and resources,” said Heitman.

Heitman said CNC has taken steps to address the incident, including the engagement of security experts to ensure “our network and systems were fully secured.”

CNC also notified the RCMP and the BC Privacy Commissioner on July 7, 2025.

Heitman said the investigation has found no evidence that any information was used for malicious or improper purposes. Despite that, she recommends people take steps to protect your personal information, including being on the lookout for identity fraud and to be wary of social engineering attempts.
