PRINCE GEORGE – The City of Prince George will be buzzing this weekend with events ranging from Community Art Days to the PG Pride Festival and of course the Special Olympics BC Summer Games. The City is expecting above average delays with road closures and construction adding to increased traffic but the Event Coordinator for the City of Prince George Lindsay Timmermans says the City is well prepared.

“It will be a busy downtown and most of the lights will be flashing red which means a four way stop. There is construction going on around downtown so just to give yourself some extra time getting around. Parking will be free this weekend as well and community art days will have a bike valet if people would like to ride their bikes down. So just give yourself some extra time and when you’re around town if you see athletes cheer them on with some good luck for the games and enjoy the weekend” said Timmermans.

With the rise in traffic comes increased benefits as the uptick in those attending events is expected to have a positive impact on local businesses throughout the city.

” We love these types of events happening, they drive people to Prince George. These events make the city busy and contribute a lot to our local economy. I think we love supporting these events and we love to see weekends like this because the tourism benefits local businesses and the community as a whole. This is a really positive weekend for us” said Tourism BC’s CEO Colin Carson.

In addition to traffic disruptions throughout the weekend the main pool at the Aquatic centre will be closed until 8 p.m Saturday and a restriction has been placed on public walking at Masich Place Stadium until 6 a.m Sunday.
