The Exploration Place targeted again

PRINCE GEORGE – The Exploration Place was once again the target of a break in this past weekend which has become a common theme over the past few months. The site was targeted during the early hours of sunday morning when the individual cut into the garden fence and attempted to remove a trolley which was then destroyed. The suspect then cut into the loading dock and allegedly tried to gain access to the Train Shed housing the Little Prince miniature train which was unsuccessful. This is just the latest in a string of incidents that have occurred over the previous few months and Alyssa Leier says this is taking a toll on those working at The Exploration Place.

” This is incredibly frustrating. I’ve been with the organization for over 12 years, and never in that time have we seen so many events so close together. The issues of vandalism, burglary and break-Ins are something we’re dealing with almost every weekend here lately, and it’s really frustrating. ” says Leier.

Employees of The Exploration Place say that police have been responding very quickly whenever they’re called, however, the culprits are in and out very quickly and with many avenues of escape catching them isn’t so easy.

The loading bay gate damage is estimated at 20,000$ alone and expenses are starting to add up for the non-profit organization which is seriously affecting the site’s bottom line. As Leier says the increase in incidents shows a growing issue across the province.

” The exploration place has been actively trying to improve our finances, and these sort of crimes really make that challenging because every single dollar is accounted for here. We are a not for profit charity so this severely impacts our budget and we are not happy about everything that’s been taking place. This is not isolated to the exploration place and certainly not to Prince George. I know it’s something that we’re seeing province wide and nationwide, and it’s a complex societal issue. Unfortunately we don’t have the answers here, but we’re just trying to advocate for ourselves and let the public know that it’s something that we’re facing. ” says Leier.

Prince George RCMP say the investigation is still ongoing. To Support the Exploration Place go to https://theexplorationplace.com
