PRINCE GEORGE – Football season returns this Saturday as The Prince George Kodiaks open their fourth season Saturday night at home looking to improve on last year’s 3 and 7 record. Kodiaks Head Coach Jamie Boreham says the right mix of leadership and experience may have the Kodiaks ready to take the next step.

“We have improved year after year and that’s a good thing, but,we expect a lot more this season. We have about 75% of our guys returning from last season so, their leadership growth will be relied on this season. Not only are we looking for playoffs, we’re looking for better than that, so it’s time to make those wins count. ” says Boreham.

Coming off a season where the Kodiaks led the league in points allowed the coach believes the blend of health, returning veterans and a strong finish to last year will translate into wins moving forward. Boreham says with the squad returning nine starters from last season this defense looks to pick up right where it left off.

“Defensively, I think we we learned a lot through last year. We had a good start in game one but got injuries and that kind of hurt some leadership transition we were trying to have happen. Three quarters way through the year we got those guys get back on the field so our last four games were the four best games that the Kodiaks have ever played. So we look at those four and that’s the that’s the four games we’re trying to build and carry on from. Those scores were definitely different and the defense was considerably better. So now it’s the players understanding the game plan and how to execute the game plan. ” says Boreham.

With the Kodiaks improving by one game each season since their expansion debut in 2022 this season hopes to be the team’s first taste of playoff football. The Prince George Kodiaks open their 10 game season against the Westshore Rebels this Saturday (July 19) at Masich Place Stadium with kickoff at 6pm.
