Daily walks, adoptions, and education at the heart of Humane Society’s work

PRINCE GEORGE – At the start of the year, the City of Prince George teamed up with the Prince George Humane Society to manage animal shelter operations. Seven months into this partnership, the Humane Society remains committed to safeguarding companion animals while also educating residents about the responsibilities that accompany pet ownership.

Every day, some of the animals that are surrendered or picked up by city bylaw officers get a chance to enjoy a daily walk. With this change, there’s a fresh perspective and a new direction in how they care for them.

The Humane Society continues to operate its First Avenue shelter as a cat adoption centre. The society offers education programs for individuals looking to adopt or those facing challenges with their furry companion.

The community shelter depends on the dedication of volunteers who contribute their time and effort behind the scenes.

” We recognize not everyone’s available. Not everyone can walk a dog or get involved in events, even a donation, a small donation, will make a difference to organizations.”

Recently, the group organized a 50/50 draw that raised over $45,000 this past weekend. A significant portion of these funds is set aside for veterinary care.

The SPCA continues to collaborate with the Bylaws department to investigate cases of animal abuse and neglect.
