PRINCE GEORGE – The UNBC Timberwolves have announced the newest addition to their famed Wall of Honour. The special distinction was given to former UNBC basketball star Kady Dandeneau. Kady’s connection to UNBC and the Prince George community as a whole remains as strong as the day she left. As Kady says her rookie season and the provincial title it produced is a great achievement but the bonds she took away from her time in Prince George are the best memories.

“I think some of my best memories from being a Timberwolf are the relationships I made. I still talk to a lot of my old teammates and some are my best friends. The community that UNBC fosters is special to the city of Prince George and the support they gave to our teams, the Timberwolves program and the university is to me is unparalleled.” says Dandeneau.

For UNBC’s Director of Athletics and Recreation Loralyn Murdoch, who was Kady’s coach during her time at UNBC, it’s no surprise Kady is being honoured.

” She lived and breathed basketball. She wanted to go to the WNBA and that she put everything into her game. Katie has that X factor and the mental struggle she went through, her dedication and hard work have taken her to where she is now. She is like probably one of the world’s top women’s wheelchair basketball players and plays for Canada.Katie is definitely deserving of being on that wall. It’s near and dear to my heart because I coached her and was part of that journey here at UNBC. ” says Murdoch.

Kady’s journey after UNBC hasn’t been easy but she made the transition from basketball to wheelchair basketball to rise through ranks, compete at a international level and win the 2020 Wheelchair Basketball Female Athlete of the year.

“You know when you put the jersey on, hear the anthem playing, and have a country behind you it doesn’t get better than that. When you play for your country you’re a part of something much bigger than yourself, and you just go out and hope you can make everyone proud back home.” says Dandeneau.

Kady Dandeneau is the second UNBC alum to be inducted this season and the 27th member of the Wall of Honour.
