Driver of transport truck involved in fatal crash near Hixon arrested for impaired driving

QUESNEL, B.C. —Update: RCMP is seeking witnesses following a fatal two-vehicle crash on Highway 97 just south of Hixon Thursday morning (July 24).

RCMP say the head-on collision occurred at 12:30 a.m. at Highway 97 and Naver Creek Road. Police say a transport truck collided with a Harley Davidson motorcycle, killing the motorcycle driver. The 38 year old driver of the transport truck from Aldergrove was arrested on scene for impaired operation of a motor vehicle.

Police say the 42 year old driver of the motorcycle was from Chemainus. Mounties are seeking dash cam video – noting that seeing the driving behaviour leading up to the collision would be important. If you have any information, call police.

Update: According to Drive BC, the highway has reopened. Police have provided more details regarding the crash, noting it was a head-on collision involving a transport truck and a motorcyclist with the driver of the motorcycle dying. The driver of the transport truck was uninjured. No other details are available.

Update: North District RCMP say one person has died as a result of a motor vehicle incident early this morning just south of Hixon.

Cpl. Madonna Saunderson told CKPG News that the incident occurred at 12:30 a.m. on Highway 97 at Meadow Creek Road. There are no details yet on how many vehicles were involved in the incident or what the cause of the incident was. The highway remains closed in both directions.

Earlier: The Cariboo Highway between Hixon and Quesnel is closed in both directions this morning.

DriveBC first reported of a vehicle incident on Highway 97 at Dunkley Road, nearly 15 kilometres south of Hixon, at around 1:30 a.m. Thursday (July 24).

There’s no estimated time of reopening, and a detour is not available. Additionally, DriveBC says police are investigating the incident.
