Evacuation alert issued for Rubyrock Provincial Park area

BURNS LAKE, B.C. — The Regional District of Bulkley-Nechako has issued an Evacuation Alert for 22 structures in or near the northeastern portion of Rubyrock Provincial Park.

The alert was issued Friday (Aug. 1) evening, and its due to a 10-hectare wildfire burning near Trembleur Lake.

“An Evacuation Alert has been issued to prepare you to evacuate your premises or property should it be found necessary,” the regional district said, in a statement. “Residents will be given as much advance notice as possible prior to evacuation, however, you may receive limited notice due to changing conditions.”

There are nearly 150 active fires across B.C. after more than 35-thousand lightning strikes across the province in recent days. A majority of those fires – 74 – are in the Prince George Fire Centre, while a further 23 are in the Cariboo Fire Centre.
