Man drinks pond water to survive north of McLeese Lake
WILLIAMS LAKE – RCMP in Williams Lake says 39-year-old Andrew Barber slurped water from ponds and ate whatever he could find to stay alive after his truck had broken down on a forest service road north of McLeese Lake.
Barber was first reported missing on July 31st and found on August 8th, when a helicopter spotted him near the make-shift-shelter, which he had built for himself out of sticks and mud near a rock with the word “help” scrawled on it.
Staff Sergeant Brad McKinnon says Barber was “severely dehydrated” and had injured his right leg, but is now said to be doing well after receiving medical care in Williams Lake.
McKinnon says it is not clear why Barber was in the area, but credits Quesnel Search and Rescue and Barber’s own wilderness skills for his survival.
