Pedestrian struck south of Quesnel on Highway 97

QUESNEL —Update: RCMP have released more details on Thursday morning’s crash.

Police responded to multiple reports of a male jumping into traffic on Highway 97 at Lavally Road about 40 kilometres south of Quesnel at around 12:15 a.m.

While en-route frontline members were notified that the male had been struck by a transport truck and he had sustained serious life-threatening injuries.

First Responders provided life saving measures to the male who was eventually airlifted to Vancouver General Hospital where he remains in critical condition. The driver of the transport truck was unharmed.

A traffic reconstructionist attended the scene to conduct a comprehensive examination and collect further evidence to advance the investigation.

Highway 97 was closed for a period of seven hours but has now re-opened.

Police are asking anyone with information or dash cam footage to contact the Quesnel RCMP at 250 992-9211

Earlier: A motor vehicle incident about 45 kilometres south of Quesnel is causing backups on Highway 97 South.

North District RCMP say a pedestrian was struck by a semi-trailer at approximately 12:08 a.m. Thursday morning near Lavally Road and Highway 97.

RCMP say the pedestrian was taken to hospital and there is no information available on the individual’s condition.

The accident closed the highway in both directions but according to Drive BC one lane has reopened.
