PRINCE GEORGE – Northwood Pulp is getting a substantial pot of funding from the provincial Clean BC initiative as part of a new $35-million support fund. It will receive $838,000.

“So this is a further investment in the fund,” explains the Minister of Energy and Climate Solutions Adrian Dix.” It’s managed by by the Ministry of Energy based on models. That’s not a political decision. They have an assessment system, and the systems work really well. And the economic benefit and the climate benefit to the province have been significant.”

Canfor will use one envelope of the funding to recover wet lime dust with a new dry dust system. The work will significantly reduce emissions.

“We expect it to be operational next year in 2026. The results that we expect are to have the equivalent of about 3,700 vehicles off the road over the following nine years, from 2026 to 2034. Overall, it supports our progress in reducing emissions and our ongoing sustainability efforts. So we’re really quite pleased to have this funding.”

Nearly 40 projects all across the province have received funding on a competitive basis.

“These are some of the best companies in the province and the best projects in the province, and they’re judged on the value of what they’re proposing on obviously, it’s emissions reduction as well, but it’s also its economic value,” says Dix. “And that’s assessed against the criteria of the program.”

Many of the projects that received funding are for feasibility studies, including two for Canfor Pulp. Those two projects are valued at $56,000 and $274,000.
