UNBC Timberwolves women’s soccer team to play season opener Friday night

Aug 21, 2025 | 9:18 AM

PRINCE GEORGE — The UNBC Timberwolves women’s soccer team is preparing for its opening games this weekend on its home field at Masich Place Stadium.

Game one against the TRU Wolfpack is this Friday at 5:30 p.m., and the following game is Sunday at noon.

Last season was a rough one for the team, finishing with a 1-13 record, but second year defender Alysa Leclerc is confident the team will be better this year, as many former rookies are entering year two.

The Timberwolves call Maleah Fernie “a player to watch.”

She is entering her third season at UNBC and the Kamloops product was named team MVP in 2024.

“One of UNBC’s greatest strengths heading into 2025 is their backline and Fernie of course plays a huge part in that. Keeping the ball away from the back-third of the field will be a big key both this weekend and all-season long for UNBC, and this weekend will provide a strong first test,” says the team.
