B.C has highest gas taxes in Canada
PRINCE GEORGE – British Columbia motorists continue to be hit with the highest taxes on gasoline and diesel fuel in Canada. A big reason why is because British Columbian drivers are still paying a back hidden carbon tax, which adds about $0.18 to the cost of a liter of gasoline. Canadian Taxpayers Federation B.C Director Carson Binda says the continued back taxes are putting British Columbians far behind the rest of the Country.
“It’s not fair that British Columbians pay the highest gas taxes in Canada. These taxes put our families and businesses at a competitive disadvantage compared to the rest of the country and enough is enough. The reason why British Columbia is at the center of the national affordability crisis, or at least a very big reason is these high energy taxes.” said Binda.
Binda adds that people in the north and rural communities are disproportionately hit by the carbon tax and other gas taxes. This is because of the long distances needed to travel, mainly because there isn’t the same type of transit infrastructure that there is in the Lower Mainland or the Capital Regional District. Binda says it’s up to the government to make changes to better increase quality of life for British Columbians.
